Puerto Rico Day 9: Going Green

Our last full day on the island dawned and with it, my last chance at a good snorkel. The pier had been an improvement but today we headed to Green Beach, a place recommended by our friends from the distillery. We weren't sure exactly which part of the beach to go to so we picked a random spot and set up our umbrella and chairs.

I went on into the water and things immediately started looking up.

I swam around the rocks on the left side of our little bay and disappeared on the other side for a while. Soon a barracuda came out of nowhere, giving me that eerie feeling that they do.

Then a stingray appeared in the grasses.

I came back to shore and we ate some lunch then I headed back in to explore the right side of our little bay until it was time to go.

It was pretty shallow and included the standard reef life but on the way back to shore I ran into another stingray in the grasses.

I returned to shore so we could make it home in time for my scheduled massage, courtesy of loudmouth from last night. The masseuse was a very nice lady who brought her table and set it up in our living room. I enjoyed a relaxing hour long massage. We spent the rest of the day tidying up, packing, and getting ready to leave early the next morning.

For our last dinner on the island, we made the drive over to Esperanza to El Quenepo, one of the "finer" restaurants on the island. While walking from the car to the restaurant, we saw a mama horse and her baby digging thru the trash.

At dinner, we started with the ceviche and fried arepas. Finally some fresh seafood on this island!

Then we split the seafood pasta and another fish dish, both very good.

After dinner, we enjoyed one last evening at the house.

The next morning we puddle-jumped back to mainland Puerto Rico, drove to San Juan, and flew home thru Houston.
